Question
My bichon frise dog is 5 1/2 years old and I received a notice from my vet that it is time for him to come in for his yearly physical. Is it absolutely necessary that I take him in as he is having no health problems whatsoever and these routine physicals at the vet are very expensive and I can't afford it.

Answer
Hi Amber. Routine vet visits are important.  During these visits, lumps, bumps and other things may be found that would not have otherwise been noticed.  The sooner something is found, the more successful treatment and recovery are.  These visits are also good as your dog will receive vaccinations that will protect him from harmful diseases and viruses, and the rabies vaccine which is required by law. If at this time, a vet visit is too expensive, it wouldn't hurt to wait a bit until it would be more comfortable for you to afford.
I hope this is helpful!  Please give that little guy tons of kisses for me!  My sister has a bichon...they are just the sweetest!
