Question
QUESTION: hi i have just got my first marine tank can you tell me what the salinity should be at for a fish only tank thanks robert

ANSWER: Hi Robert,
Specific Gravity is what you want to measure, though most refer to it as salinity. It should be between 1.020 and 1.026. Ideally keeping it closest to the ocean between 1.024 and 1.026 is best.

QUESTION: hello again very helpful info mate thanks can you also tell me do i need to use a wave machine or powerheads in a fish only tank thanks robert

Answer
Hey Robert,
One or the other... water movement is essential to your biological filter in marine aquaria, so I would get at least 1(depending on the size of your aquarium). I run 3 in a 55 gallon(208 liter) that sits in my office. Wave machines are really pricey though for a FOWLR, so I would look at small power heads. I use KING 225 models from petco.com for $18.99 and they're great!
