bottom feeder (injured)

Question
this evening i was at the local walmart.   I was looking at the fish and noticed that a small bottom feeder was being attacked by some other fish in the tank (they were some type of small blowfish that looked like army fatigue colors). no one was around to ask if for help so i decided to help the little fish myself.  it looked as though his eyes were bitten off and lots of bites on his back.  After about 25 minutes, i decided that i would buy him and take him home. he is home, now, still in the bag.  i have an aquarium that could support  this tiny bottom feeder, but i want to make sure that i  would be doing the right thing for my fish and him.  i did buy a 1 gal tank to set up, but first i thought i'd see if he makes iot through the evening. he is responsive and wags his tail when i talk to him.  thanks for your help. Sandy

Answer
Hi Sandy,
Seeing as the fish is so badly injured i would recommend using Melafix. This will heal the wounds. Try to do daily water changes to help him recover more quickly. Keep him alone so no other fish can bully him. It is best to use treatment as quickly as possible to prevent bacterial infections from occuring.

Good luck!
Chloe.
