Brown algae?

I have a new tank, one month old, and have noticed a lot of brown build-up on my plants, in the gravel, and on my decor.  Is this brown stuff normal and if so, how much should I clean off and how often?

Hi Tammy,
This is called brown algae which usually appears in a newly set up tank where conditions have yet to stabilise. Try not to overfeed and do regular water changes and do monthly filter maitenance.Your tank will be cycled in about two weeks so i would recommend a brittlenose pleco as this fish loves brown algae. Only add him when your tank is fully cycled in about two weeks.
