Question
i have an archerfish and it has clearly scratched its eye, you can see the scratch! it seems as though it is pretty swollen and has gone cloudy, but the eye is still intact it would seem. Is there anything i should be doing for it, like leaving the light off or adding something, or is it likely that the eye is permanently damaged? thanks.

Answer
Hi Bob;

Ouch! Poor guy. Keep his tank very clean and maybe use a medicication for treatment of infection. I rarely recommend medicine right off the bat but they eye is a pretty vital part of his anatomy. Since it has turned white I would suspect it may be infected with fungus or bacteria. Treat for both, but be sure each is compatible with the other. Also use Melafix and aquarium salt. Melafix has natural ingredients that help the damaged tissues regenerate. Salt helps avoid further infection and gives a stressed fish back electrolytes. I have found both to be compatible with all other medications.

I hope he gets better soon...
