QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I have 1 electric yellow cichlid that is about 2.5 inches. I am pretty sure it is a female. She is very healthy and is in a 10 gallon tank as this is my first endeavor with fish keeping I wanted to start small. Are there any fish that it would do well with in such a small tank? Just one other possibly or do I need to move to a bigger tank?
Thanks!
Jessica
ANSWER: Hi Jessica!
In a 10 gallon, you could have one more electric yellow and that's about it.
They would do nicely in there.
Of course, if you go to a 20 gallon, you could have 2 electric yellows and 2 of another cichlid. Maybe P. Kennyi?
Good luck!

QUESTION: thanks for the response. If I do get another yellow does it matter what size it is? What about gender? Will two females fight more or a male/female breed?
AnswerElectric yellows are tough to tell their sex when they are young.
The male eventually has a nice black top fin, dorsal fin and generally has more black on him.
It really doesn't matter if you get another female or a male. They are pretty peaceful.
You can get a smaller one if you like, just make sure you have at least one cave or a nice hiding space, OK?
