priming canister filters

what is priming a canister filter and how do you do it, i have a rena xp3

Hi Caroline.
Priming a cannister filter means to get it filled with tank water so when you turn it on a suction begins and the water flow will begin.
All cannisters are different, but there should be some sort of lever on the cannister that you would either pull up and down or push back and forth. You will see air bubbles come out into the tank. When the air bubbles stop, then you can safely turn on the filter.
Check your owners manual to locate the lever for your filter.
