Question
QUESTION: Hello,

Please Help!  I have a 90 gal, 4 weeks old, 6 African Cichlids.  Amonia is off the charts.  I have a FilstarxP with the setup as follows from top to bottom; Black Stars, White Tubes, loose ammo-chips, loose carbon, assortment of the foam pad filters.  I am not sure if the setup in the filter is correct.  I have put in ammo-lock, then I put WaterClarifier.  All today 6-26-7.  Yesterday I did a %40 water change and I am wooried about my fish.  Amonia is still off the chart and water is so cloudy I cant see the back.  Fish are suffering at the bottom not really swimming around.  Some have dark spots around mouth and sides.  Please help me.  How often can I change the water?  How often do I put Ammo-lock?  How often do I use the stresszyme?  What else am I forgetting?  Please help!

ANSWER: Chris,
First thing is relax...
Your tank is in the middle of cycling and you need to lay off the ammo lock and anything else. It's useless.
I want you to do a 75% water change and try and get to the store and buy Bio Spira.
Stress Zyme is a fake.
If you do as I say, your tank will cycle in a few days and you may save your fish.

QUESTION: Hello,

I did the water change you reccomended.  I also did another %20 change today 6-30-7.  It had no effect.
Amonia is off the charts.  Small amount of nitrite now in the tank.  Is this the cycling beginning?  What else should I do?

Answer
Chris
Did you try and find Bio Spira?
Bio Spira is the bacteria you need to cycle your tank.
Yes, your tank is cycling but the fish are in danger with high ammonia and nitrite.
If you cannot find bio spira, you are going to have to wait this out for several weeks and most likely lose some fish.
Keep doing water changes unless you find bio spira.
That's your only choices. Sometimes fish can get through a cycle, but cichlids are not that tough.
You may want to add some live plants to help absorb ammonia. You can always take them out later
