Med combo

Question
QUESTION: I noticed on this site that it was recommended to use Quick Cure with Maracyn for treatment of a certain disease.  I wanted to now if one could add Maracyn 2 to the combo.  Mardel says you can use Maracyn 1&2 together.  So I was wondering if M2 would safely interact with QC also.  Otherwise, I have had a fish die from a disease I have never seen. Now my other fish looks to have come down with the same disease.  Excessive slime with very small bubbles (I think).  Sitting on the bottom, floating, then back to the bottom.  Won't eat his favorite foods or any foods.  Except for the slime.  Don't notice any external signs.  Should have tried Quick Cure.  May have saved the other fish.  Please help!!

ANSWER: Hi Camilla
Maracyn Two should be fine with Quick Cure.  Maracyn Two is an antibiotic(minocycline) and Quick Cure is a parasite remover.  I'm not a fan of Maracyn, it's geared mainly to treat gram positive bacterial infections.  Just about all bacterial infections fresh water fish get are gram negative.  So, I usually recommend using Maracyn Two or Maracyn Plus.

Those small bubbles, are they in the fish or just accumulated outside on the slime coat?

What kind of fish is it?
What size is the tank?
What's the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates readings?

That can actually be a sign of a few things, from a parasite infection(were the fish darting around the tank or rubbing/scratching on objects in the tank?) it could just be water quality causing it, or even a bacterial infection.

QUESTION: The small bubbles are on the outside of his coat.  They were so tiny I almost thought it was a bad case of ich.

Answer
I really don't know why the bubbles are there, could be that they're attaching on to the slime coat....honestly I've never heard of that.

I would use a med that will treat for external parasites and protozoans.  And you should probably use some salt in the tank as well to help remove some of the slime coat on him for the meds to work.  I would use 1 tablespoon per 5 US gallons.

Tank size is good for a convict.  The only issue I see, you don't have any nitrates present.  How long has the tank been set up?  With those readings, that means the tank hasn't cycled yet....

Let me know how his treatment goes and good luck!
