Angelfish Breeding

Question
Hello Me. Fields,
I have an Angelfish for about three years now and recently she has begun cleaning off Amazon Sword plant leaves and depositing eggs upon them. I feel sorry for her because there is no male in the tank and all the other fish do is eat her eggs. Is there something I can do to help her mate. The last time I bought another Angelfish my current Angel kept it cornered in the tank so i took back. Can she be too agressive for a male to join the? She is a pretty big fish

Answer
Hi Michael,
Angelfish commonly lay eggs on their own. It's not really a big deal for the females to not have a mate. And it can be really hard to pair up angelfish artificially. Unless you are for certain that the angelfish you add is in fact a male. And even then there may be some aggression issues. However some people get lucky with using a tank divider to keep the pair seperate until they seem ready to spawn (when their spawning tubes drop and they act interested in each-other)and then you can move the divider so allow the angelfish to pass to the other side.

Breeding angelfish can be somewhat of an experimentation. Angelfish can be pretty happy and thriving being by themselves and your female angel is just going by her instinct to lay eggs, if you could get her a mate and work on helping them get along that would be really great. But otherwise she is fine by herself.

Best of luck with everything! I hope this helps!
Karen~
