Moving my Betta to a larger bowl

Question
I'm going to switch from a 1 gallon bowl to a 3 gallon.   I'm worried about having to add at least 50% new water for the initial move.
I'd also like to change the gravel to a new color will that screw up the bacteria he's used to in his current environment?

Answer
Hello Debra, when switching the betta to the larger bowl, don't worry about the new gravel. It won't affect him much. Also when adding the 50% new water, if you can, let your betta float in a plastic baggie, with some of his old water. It's so that he can get used to the water. If you go this approach leave him in there for a least an hour. Another way, is to put him in the new bowl, and put some of the water in it, so that the betta can swim in it. Little by little you could add the new water, watching him carefully.
