Panacur Dosage

Question
QUESTION: Hi there! I have a breakout of Callamanus in my 20 litre tank, and have some Panacur to treat it with. The only thing that I don't have is a dosage! Would you be able to help me? Like I said, it is a 20 litre tank with guppies, a few neon tetras and one Pakistani loach. There are a few plants (real) in there. Should I take them out before I dose the tank? Will it harm them? Please help! If you do not know the answer, can you pass me on to someone who would? Thanks!

Bryony

P.S. I'm using Panacur because I cannot get Levamisol in Canada. I've heard that that is a better treatment.

ANSWER: Bryony,
I don;t think there would be any serious side effects on the plants from the medication.
This is a tuff parasite to get rid of but it can be done.
I would also see about using Metronidozole aka Flagil(sp).
The safest and most effective way to treat camallanus worms is to use flubenol 15 and use it weekly for 4-5 weeks, as it can take a number of doses to kill them as you have to kill the parasites as they are born, as the chances are you will have eggs laid in the fish.   Its approved for use over the counter and will work with no negative side effects at all.

QUESTION: The Panacur didn't work! I think I might have under dosed it at first, but now my fish are dropping like flies and there's a huge empty cavity where the anus was! You told me to use flubenol 15? Can you tell me what the doses would be? And would it still work if the worms are immune to Panacur? Thank you so much!

Answer
this is about as comprehensive explanation as I can round up.
I believe that underdosing has some ramifications.

Instructions For Use of Flubenol 15.

These packs will treat up either 100 or 2000 gallons of water, and will kill flukes, camallanus worms, tapeworms and other helminthics.

Use 1ml/1gram per 25 gallons of water (A flat teaspoon equals 5mls and will treat a tank of up to 125 gallons). This is a once off treatment, although repeating on a monthly basis or whenever more plants or any fish are added to the tank would be beneficial. Do not under dose. Using the powder at up to 10 times the recommended minimum amount will cause no damage to fish, filters or plants. Mix powder with some water from the aquarium in a jug and pour the contents into your tank. No harm will come to your fish if they swim into the mixture. If possible do not water change for 24 hours after use.

WARNING, this powder will kill snails, if there is a large population of snails in your tank, toxic conditions may be triggered by the pollution caused by the death of the snails. This powder can be mixed with any other medications that are being used, and will prove beneficial particularly during the quarantining of your fish, the powder is U/V stable, and it is not necessary to shut down U/V sterilisation during it's application.
