Transporting Fish

Question
I am moving my fish out of my apartment back home- I have two neon rosy barbs (small) and a tinfoil barb (3 inches).  What is the best way to transport these guys to reduce the amount of stress on the trip as well as putting them in the tank again once I reset it up.

Should I keep them in a dark spot so that they don't try to move around too much?  Keep them all together? How much of the water should I take with me? Should I re-wash the gravel once I get home?

Thanks,
Greg

Answer
Hi There,

To transport them, put them in clear plastic fish bags. You may need some heat packs if you are travelling quite a distance.
Put the clear bag into a darker bag as they will get disorientated.
Make sure you puts lots of air into the bags and a small amount of water so that they have plenty of oxygen.
Keep them in separate bags as they could injure each other.
Make sure you keep your filter wet or the bacteria will start to die.
You can wash the gravel if you wish.

Hope this helps,
Chloe :)
