Question
Hello!  I have a couple of questions relating to my recently purchased 26 gallon tank for my molly and platy (which were once in a 5 gallon tank).

I let the new tank cycle for about 36 hours and placed the fish in the new tank to really get the cycle started.  They are staying near the bottom of the tank, near one of the plants I've put in.  As of now, this does not really concern me, as they look healthy and the water quality is good.  Temp. is also good, at about 80 degrees.  Out of curiousity, what would make the fish hang towards the bottom of the tank?

Secondly, I'm looking to add some schooling fish, possibly barbs or catfish.  Any other suggestions for the 26 gallon tank?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hello!

They would go to the bottom from stress, especially if there aren't enough plants.

For schooling barbs I would suggest Cherry barbs. THE most peaceful fish you will ever find, and great schoolers.

For catfish I'd suggest any one of the Corydora species. Unlike other catfish that get very large, cories never top 3", so you could easily put a half dozen in your tank. Also, very peaceful, very easy to care for. Just drop down a wafer once a day. The Hikari variety is best I find.
