Question
I just set up my 55 gal tank. I bought 8 mickey mouse platies of different colors and 2 algea eaters. It looks like my one if not two of my platies are very big or bloated. I am new at this aquarium hobby and can't set up another tank for the babies but would like some of them to survive or at least give them a chance. I don't have any plants at the moment. What should I do?

Answer
Hi Cindy:  Line the bottom of the tank with something bushy... like java moss or some other plant like that.... The babies will hide in it and many should survive. Plastic plants will work too... Feed them a paste made of boiled egg  yolk and water or if you can find microworm cultures... I usually find them on Ebay.... then you can culture those. They are the best food for fry and they do not foul a tank like the rest will.  Feed them 4 times per day for the first week... dave
