Question
Hi,
I didn't realise that my fish was artificially dyed I have heard about it before but i didn't realise mine had had this done untill afterwards. I feel very sorry that this happens to fish and I wish I had not encouraged this trade myself.
Anyway getting to my point.
In the past 2weeks that I have had my Parrot fish he has begun to change colour though he isn't fading infact he has indeed become a black colour he has a blob of black on his head and blackish colour on his fins, the rest of his body is still blue.. he is about 2 inches in length so i'd say his pretty young.. I don't know how old exactly im not a fish expert clearly. His behaviour hasn't changed he is very happy and swims aroud the tank no loss of appetite etc.. there is no fungal infections and all my fish are fine I even took him into a fish shop and they said he looked free of disease though they do not ushally deal with parrot fish.
So I was wondering if you could please tell me why this has happened cos I am worried that if he has got somethig should he be removed? Or is it infact his Natural colours coming through?
Please Help me i'm desperate!
Thankyou, Maisie x
P.S I'm from England this would seriously help me greatly as I have researched lots and can't find any information =]

Answer
Hello Maisie:  What will happen to your fish is that over time his color will fade from blue to probably orange.  Parrots are hybrids so if he is a pure orange fish then he will return to being a pure orange fish. Some parrots are mottled with various colors such as black and dark green with a pale base color that is usually orange or sometime yellow.  Regardless of his current blue color he will return to whatever his original color is.  Can you tell me more about the thing on his head???? dave
