Question
Hello,
We've just noticed that our ballon ram isn't doing very good.. he has some kind of weird thing on one side of him starts are the front top of his head and goes down just before his eye almost down to the bottom on his belly. It hard to explain what it looks like.. It looks like a few different things. It kinda looks like it could be a fungus..or like his flesh has kinda been eaten away.. or maybe even burnt from the heat lamp? anyway its all on the front side of him.. no idea what its from non of the other fish have it?

Answer
Hi there!
Sounds like it might be fungus. Or perhaps another fish bit at him a lot.

Could you attach a picture? that would definitely help..

Fungus usually appears whitish/gray and can form sheets, fuzzy patches, slimy strings, or wispy threads. The best treatment I have found is to change the water at 50% everyday and treat with Jungle Brand Fungus clear (predissolve the tablets first) treat for as long as the fish has symptoms. Some aquarium salt wouldn't hurt either and it can deter some infections as well.

Treatment in a hospital tank would be best if it turns out your little fish needs it.

Best of luck!
Karen~
