tank clarity and lighting

Question
I just bought a nova extreme HO for my 110 gallon, but now the glass looks really cloudy. I would like to know if windex is suitable to use on a freshwater aquarium outside and if not, what are some better options to get the glass clear? Also, there are 2 bulbs in the lighting fixture, one white and one blue. I do have live plants but nothing major. I use 2 types of Flourish brand supplements regularly. Can I still grow plants effectively with one or the other(to save money) or do I have to use both?

Answer
Hi Jarrod,
First of all, if you are going to use Windex, I'd dilute it with one part water per one part Windex, just in case, so that if any gets into the water, it will not cause as much harm. Secondly, I'd spray the Windex on the cloth, not diresctly on the glass. Make sure you close the hood when wiping. The point is, don't get ANY of the Windex into the water.

An alternative way to clean the glass would be to use baking soda, mix one tablespoon into one cup of water, but I think the Windex would be more effective.

How may plants do you have? If you only have a few plants, here and there, then one bulb should be fine, use the white one. If your tank looks like a complete jungle (like most of mine), then you'll probably need the two.

Good luck with you aquarium!
