will a pleco be a problem with live plants? will they eat or dig up?

Ryan,
the short answer is yes, they will rasp plants.
depending on the variety of plants some like Anubias may be able to withstand the assault.
others, like crispus etc will not.
Also, keep a piece of driftwood in the aquarium as the plecos need it.
Good luck and if the plecos don;t work out perhaps otocinclus or flying fox would be more in line with the planted aquarium.
