Hey mate iv got a pair of breeding convicts the male is a normal grey with
black stripes an the female is a pink convict and they have had 2 batches
of fry so far and are prepairing for another the first batch none survived
and with the second only 2 survived so i wanna know why this is? should i
seperate the next batch from the parents or should i give the parents
another shot at trying to raise there fry? there are no other fish in the
tank either only a yabbie (crayfish) an the tank is  5 ft by 2 ft so if you
have any suggestions id love 2 hear them thanks regards aaron

Answer
Aaron,

Cichlids are awesome parents so I would leave them with the eggs. If you want to keep more babies alive I would remove the Crayfish. They are scavengers and if they come across eggs or fry they will eat them. I would put in some plants so that the fry have a place to hide. It can be live plants like Java Fern or Jave Moss, or plastic plants. They actually have a plant that floats at the top of the water and only the fry can fit in it so they can hide in there. Good luck on the new fry.
