Question
my oscar "rosie" has been dwelling in the corner of our 29 gallon tank for a while now but over the last few days after we picked up a new tank(old tank broke in cleaning) the fish has been twitching and sort of floating instead of swimming it stays at the bottom in the corner and moves the gravel around. The tank is new 3wks old-29 gallons- 2 fish 1 oscar 1 fire mouth.yes filter system millennium  3000
- the ph balance was checked by my local pet store and i was told that everything checked out fine..

Answer
Hi Marv;

I think this is probably from "New Tank Syndrome". Those are some pretty big fish to have to start a tank with. It's terrible to have to do that after having a tank break. Sorry that happened to you. Been there myself.

Get the water tested for the levels of ammonia and nitrite. Don't worry about nitrates. They are relatively low in toxicity and probably are not present yet anyway. It's the ammonia and nitrite that bothers fish the most. As long as you have a positive result for them, make 25% to 50% water changes daily to help get the toxin level down. Remove 25% to 50% of the water every day for the next week. Don't vacuum the gravel unless there is leftover food or waste there that you can see. Once the fish feels better after a week or so, do 25% changes every 3 days.

Followups welcome
