How do i know if my fish is hurt?

Hi,
i have a betta fish and he loves the filter and is always sticking very close to it. yesterday i couldnt find him and looked everywhere.. then i looked under the filter and there he was his little fin was stuck and the rest of his tail and other fins were all torn up  in the bottom of the filter i turned the filter off and he swam out he wasnt using his little fin yesterday but today he is.. is he gonna be ok?

Poor little fella. That happens with bettas sometimes. He will probably be fine but watch for infection in the wounded areas.  Keep his water very clean so it lessens the bacteria and fungi in there that could get on his wounds.
