Question
Hi, i would really appreciate it if you could help. My favourite fish - a silver gourami suddenly developed clouded eyes a day ago...i have tested the water and found nothing wrong. I went to the pet store where i was informed to add salt and meth.blue i have done so however my concern is that he is not eating. he is rather large and normally eats alot. Do you have any tips on how to help either with how to feed him or to heal him fast!? ( i tried isolating him and adding lots of food but nothing!) many thanks

Answer
Hello Anushka-

Sorry for the long wait! AllExperts.com did not put in my vacation time correctly, so I am just now getting your question. :(

Your gourami is probably very old, if he is so large, correct? I have two that are about 5 years old myself. Anyways, cloudy eyes are often common as the fish ages. I would recommend giving him an 80% water change, adding the salt and meth. blue, and then increasing the water temperature slightly. This should stimulate his metabolism and perhaps he will eat.

Also, you can try mixing his food with garlic powder. Most fish cannot resist the taste and scent, but be sure to use it in moderation as it will cloud your water. I've used this for my picky bettas, and it does work. :)

Also, never offer more than a pinch. If you offer way too much, he'll most likely not eat because he is "overwhelmed" by all the food.

Hope this is helpful!
