comet still wont eat

Question
Hi Amber,
I so appreciate that you are here. I have the comet with the transparant poop. You suggested rolling the peas in garlic powder. that was a HUGE hit, with all my other goldfish,(as if they needed an appetite stimulant!) The comet however acts like it's interested but still won't eat. would it help to put him in a hospital tank all by himself? I don't want to put him through the stress of changing tanks if I don't have to but if it will make it easier to make him eat, that's ok.
Waiting greatfully for your response, Sandy.

Answer
Hello again Sandy-

Tough little fish... :)
An easy way to separate a fish without moving him into a new tank is to make a screen to separate off part of the tank. Depending on the dimensions, you can use a plastic divider from a notebook (with holes punched in it for water transport) or rig something out of cheesecloth. Of course, the easiest way is to buy a screen kit (for $4-6 at a hardware store) and build a screen just for your tank. I did this to divide a 20 gallon into 5 sections for my male bettas, and it has worked beautifully. That way, you can reuse the screen when introducing new fish later, or to isolate one fish.

This may help him eat, if he is worried about other fish stealing from him. It will probably take a day or two for everyone in the tank to realize what the screen is, but after that, you may have some success with feeding.

Hope this is useful! If you'd rather, you can transport him to a new tank, but as you said, the stress may further reduce his appetite.
