Question
Hi, thanks for taking time to answer my question.  My son has a betta male whose dorsal and tail fins have turned clear or nearly clear.  He's a blue fish.  He seems otherwise healthy.  I put in some BettaFix yesterday, in case he was sick.  Have you ever seen this problem before?  Is it deadly?

Answer
Hi Dana,
Bettas are, of course, very pretty fish. They have many stages in life in which there color changes. A family member of mine has a betta that when he first got him he was a beautiful blue and green, he was a young betta and then before he new it his beautiful betta had changed into a dark grey with green and red fins. This tells us that bettas go threw many stages of color as they mature and begin to become adults. Then again if you have changed his food latley many foods have color inhansers that change a pretty betta into an ugly one. Your sons betta is probably just going threw the natural course of life.

Hope This Helps

Kyle
