what does salt do for a fresh water tank

Hi I have a 55 gal fresh water tank I am using a whisper 60 filter with no undergravel filter my tank is a month old and I have comity fish I heard that salt helps establish new tanks and also aids in keeping it clear is this true thank you

Hi Troy,
 Although lots of people say to add salt to an aquarium, I have never found any reason to do so, nor do I know of any scientific proof that it does anything good.  I think it is a myth.

Personally, I never add salt.
