Unfortunately I do not know which particular small crabs you are referring to. In general, the best way to sex crabs is to look at the tiny "swimmerets" on the underside: females and males differ in the size and shape of the swimmerets. In some species, the sexes differ in color and in some species the males have larger main claws (the chelopods).
