Why do my parrot fish pick up the gravel and spit it out?

mt parrott fish take in the gravel in the tank and spitit out every where. why do they do that. there funny to watch , but dont know why they do it.

Parrot fish are in the cichlid family. Cichlids of most types commonly move gravel and rocks around to make their home more to their liking. They also do that to make a place to spawn and/or to establish territory. Sounds like they are just acting normal to me. ;-)
