pacostamas

i have 9 african chilids they just ate my pacostamas how do i prevent this or can i the pacostamas was 3 inches long chilids are between 3 and 5 inches they ars in a 40 gallon tank sorry for some of the spelling   keith

Hi Keith,
 It is very likely that the plecostomus died and then they ate it, rather than the other way around.

 The key to keeping plecostomus is that they must have wood that they can hide around/under.  They also eat the wood. A plecostomus will seldom survive well in a bare tank.
