Question

Cream Puff
Hi there.
I've had my Oscar, Cream Puff, for close to a year, He is now around 8 inches. I currently only have a 30 gallon tank for him, but i'm desperately shopping for a larger tank for him. Having trouble finding an affordable one. His only tank mate is a 8 inch pleco.. He has eaten everyone else.. I have 2 Aqua Clear Filters, two 30's, running for him, and vacuum and clean his tank every two weeks.
Anyways for the past month or so he isn't himself. He is always lying on the bottom of the tank on his side looking like hes dead. Very rarely he'll get up, if i come up to see him or feed him. His appetite has dropped, and he has no interest in greeting me at the tank. He has no marks or holes or wounds or parasites or anything apparent on him. He looks very healthy but he's just so lethargic all the time.
One thing i did notice is that when he chews his food you can hear a cracking noise come from his mouth.. Almost like glass grinding together.
What do you think is wrong with him?
Thanks very much!

Mary

Answer
His bones are deformed from being in such a small tank for so long.

Nothing you can do to fix the problem, but if you get a bigger tank the deformationws may stop at that instead of get worse.

Also, you should be doing 50% weekly water changes or even twice weekly.
