Gourami & Tiger Barbs

Question
I have two dwarf male Gourami and three female, would like to add several Tiger Barbs but am worried about fighting.  I have 40 gallon tank at the end of cycling (3 guppies in the tank - which are going into retirement at my Mom's).  I really wanted clown loaches but heard they get very large.  Would the barbs work or is this a bad idea?

Hi Diane,
  I am personally not a big fan of barbs and I suspect that tiger barbs might attack your gouramis.  But you never know for sure until
you try it.
