Question
Hi this is shawn again and i'd like to let you know that i tested my water and my nitrites were very high so i started doing partial water changes and moved my tiger barbs to a smaller tank by themselves and they're happy as ever now. but now also, my once healthiest fish, my ocellatus has all the skin coming off of his head and eyes. my ph is about 7.9 and stays constant. as i said my nitrite level is under .5 and i'm continuing water changes daily. my nitrate level is 0. thank you again for your help

Answer
Hi Shawn,
When skin is coming off a fish, it usually means that you have ammonia in your water.  This is called "Ammonia Burn"  All you can do now is keep making water changes everyday until your ammonia level is zero, and nitrites zero.  You cannot cure a fish when your water chemistry is off.  I would put him in with the barbs while your other tank is cycling.  This might help him get better.  There is no other solution, as he will die in an uncycled tank.
Provide a good hiding place for him, an overturned pot, or rocky cave.  Acclimate him well to your other tank.
I hope he pulls through.
