ANSWER: Hi Clinton,
Pottassium Permanganate would not be my choice to cure ich.  I would do a water change of 30% by syphoning from the bottom to remove pottassium permanganate from your tank.  Let your water flow through your carbon for a day to really remove it out of your water.  You must get it out of your water before treating with another medication.  When there is no more trace of pottassium permanganate in your water buy "Quick Cure"  Follow the directions on the bottle.  It says that it will cure ich in two days, but continue the treatment longer.  After four days, syphon your water from the bottom and do a water change of 25%....continue treatment for another 4 days...syphon water again of 25%, and medicate again for 4 days.  This should get rid of the ich.  Ich is always present in water, and attack weak fish.  Make sure that you feed your fish good quality food that have vitamins in them such as a good quality flake, and frozen foods too, such as bloodworms, and brine shrimp.  Vary his diet as much as possible.  Test your water to make sure you have no ammonia in it.  Ammonia is the number one killer of fish.  Keep your water free of it, by doing your water changes every week.
It is said that high temperature and salt will cure ich, however I have never had any success with this treatment.  The best one in my opinion is "Quick Cure"  Do what I have told you, and you should get rid of the ich.

QUESTION: Hi lynda ,
Thank you for your time to reply to my question .
Im faced with another problem , quick cure and other high products are not sold in bulk in india and are at very pricey rates , the only availiable product here is "ocean free - methylene blue and pottassium permanganate" which many aquarists are givin bad reports of it
hence i thought of using salt and increasing the temperature since thats the only availiable natural medication here , is there any other medication which you think would be sold worldwide ?
I feed my flowerhorn hikari gold and some pellet food called " humpy head"
Ive heard feeding peas , brocoli tops and orange pieces help since its full of vitamins, is that true ?
And last but not the least , even if i continue my salt and heater treatment ( if no other option left - worst comes to worst )will my fish survive ????

yours sincerely ,

Answer
Hi Clinton,
I understand that the cost of shipping medication would be high.  Ocean Free is good, but it is for salt water aquariums, and not for freshwater.  Methylene Blue, is not very good at this stage of the parasite.  Keep using pottassium permanganate, and add one tablespoon of salt per gallon to your tank, and temperature at 30 ...do water changes often, syponing from the bottom where ick eggs are, to get rid of them.  When ick is free swimming this is when you see them on the fish.  Sometimes it takes 7-8 and even 14 days to get rid of it.  Do water changes every second day of 25% and add salt to the amount of water you have removed.  If you removed 5 gallons, add 5 tablespoons of salt.  Keep up the treatment with pottassium permanganate.  You have no choice to continue doing this, and maybe this will save your fish.  Fish do die when they are not getting treatment for this awful disease.  I hope your fish pulls through.  Sometimes it takes a while for the medication to work.  Pottassium permanganate should get rid of the ick, but it will take time.  If you see your fish is cured, continue the treatment for 3 days after to be sure that the ick is out of your water.
Hikari food are one on the top foods to feed your fish.  I have heard that "Humpy Head" is very good also.  They love insects,  earthworms, snails, chopped meat, and you can buy them frozen fish that we eat, that come from fresh water, they love this, and it is cheaper that the pet store.  They also like peas, lettuce, and lettuce.
Hope he recovers, they are beautiful fish.

Hello Again,
I'm sorry you think that I wasn't much of a help to you, but I did my best to help you.   With the information you gave me, and the problems you have in getting good medication in your country, doesn't help me to help you cure your fish.
I do hope he will get better, as I do my best to help people, but without the good medication, there is not much I can do.
