KEET DISTURBING OTHER KEETS NEST!

Question
I HAVE 3 KEETS IN THE SAME CAGE. ONE KEET HAS LAYED 5 FERTILE EGGS. SHE SITS ON THEM RELIGOUSLY. I HAVE ANOTHER KEET, I BELIEVE FEMALE AND IT HAS STARTED GOING INTO THE NESTING BOX DISTURBING AND UPSETTING THE MOM KEET. THE EGGS ARE ABOUT 2 WEEKS OLD. THIS KEET HAS JUST STARTED THIS YESTERDAY 3-27-08 IS IT TRYING TO HURT THE EGGS OR JUST INTERESTED?

Answer
Hello Robin,

I am in the midst of breeding my keets and this same thing happened to me when I first started. What i did was put a second nest box in the cage for the curious female. This is because i have a very large cage and had enough room for it. But if you decide to do this, be prepared, because the curious one may begin to lay unfertile eggs.

Another thing you could do is separate her from the breeding female for a little while until the chicks are grown. If you do this, still allow the curious female to see the others so she doesn't get upset. This is a hard situation to be in, but when the eggs hatch, keets have been known to be destructive to each others babies, eggs, and nest. I would separate her or give her something else to do.

I am assuming the 3rd bird is a male if the eggs your bird is laying are fertile. Right? Is he trying to disturb your breeding female too?

Hope this helps!
