trying to teach my budgie to talk

Question
Hey my names Lee im from Newcastle , England, I've had my budgie Tweety since he was quite young, I got him from a pet shop. I've had him for about 3yrs now. I have always wanted him to talk but I have never been armed with the advice of experts to help. He's quite a shy budgie in that when I physically bring him out the cage(he won't come out on his own) he tends to settle and he'll run away if u approach him. I am currently trying to build up contact with him,he will happily hop on my finger run up my arm , (when I get close enough to him) ,sit on my shoulders etc, but when I approach him with a finger to touch his chest/head/back he begins to panic and backs off or flys away. He listens when I talk to him he replies in budgie tweets, he loves music and has his favourite songs, (smooth criminal, bad, Billie Jean, Michael Jackson and most dance songs also he goes crazy for power ballads) I get the feeling that hes desperate to talk when I chat one to one with him he tilts his head at me as if hes trying to work out what im saying, then he'll stretch his mouth and tongue as if hes trying to mouth the sounds but alas nothing comes out- yet (however he doesnt chirp or tweet when i speak directly to him he just listens) . I sit with him and say "pretty boy" over and over and he reacts to it like its familiar and he knows whats going on but he just isnt making the leap into speaking, any ideas? thanks in advance, im looking forward to helping my tweety speak Very Happy

Answer
Hello Lee and thank you for your question,

Some budgie will talk some wont lol, its just that simple, not everyone will talk even some males that are extremly bonded with there owners will never utter a word. The only thing my handfed cuddley male lovebird will do is 'tuck' when you go to kiss him it is his way or kissing you I guess, but those types of birds aren't great talkers anyways. Simpley repeting the same phrase or word over and over again is the best you can do, having him on your shoulder or finger while saying this would work better then talking him the word through his cage bars. My lovebird likes dance/pop music too but hates billy talent lol... too loud for him perhaps. This is the best I can do to help you... none of my parrots ever talked only made kissing sounds, sorry I couldnt be of more help,
