Question
Hi,I own racehorses in India and would like to know what to feed the horses one week prior to race that can give it maximum energy and speed ( I would not want the horse to tire in the final 100 mtrs) in races of 1200 and 1400 mtrs. My current feed per day for a 450 kg horse is 3kg oats, 4 kg processed balanced feed (Kentucky Equine Research performance x packet feed), 500 grams luceren fresh green, 250 grams carrots, 150 ml oil (Omega 3:6:9), 50 grams of calcium supplement and 75 to 100 grams of quality electrolytes. The above feed is split into two feed one in the moning and one in the evening. The horses drink around 30 to 40 liter of water a day. Please give your expert suggestions. Thanks Kevin

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your question.  Before I can balance a ration for you, I need to know a few things:

What type of grass or hay does the horse eat, and how much per day?

What is the nutritional analysis (tag) of the Calcium supplement...is it just Calcium or is it a mineral supplement?

With that information I will be better able to answer your question.

Thanks, Corlena
