Question
hello sir, what is grass hay? is it a type of hay? can i feed grass hay to racing thoroughbred horses? how does grass hay look like? can you post me a picture of it?

Answer

Grass Hay
Hi Caine,

Thank you for your question.  Grass hay is a type of hay consisting of grass plants.  Different regions will produce different types of grass that can be used for horses as both fresh feed or preserved forages.  Grass is a plant with a limited number of long narrow leaves, and nutritionally is characterized by being less nutrient dense than legumes (which are the alfalfas, clovers, trefoils).  Grass hay is an excellent forage source for horses, although the higher energy density of legumes may be more helpful to performance race horses. I will attach a picture to help you identify it.

I hope that helps.

Thanks, Corlena
