consuming more protein - bleeding

Question
hello ma'am, if a horse is consuming more protein, it would lead to bleeding. may i know how? does too much protein rupture the blood vessels?

Answer
Hello Rohit,

Protein rich diets are NOT responsible for respiratory tract bleeding in horses.  I've heard that suggestion but there is little evidence to back up the claim.  The blood can come from different areas of the respiratory tract, and can be caused from a variety of sources...but not too much dietary protein.

Thanks, Corlena
