Question
hello ma'am, in your previous answer, you mentioned about BERMUDA GRASS and its advantages. so are you sure it doesn't release toxins if it is cut out?

one more question, really so sorry for frustrating you. i never take a chance regarding horse diet. we feed kancha hay to horses. it is special species grown in india. i am trying to google it in internet but not getting correct information about its contents. if suppose i feed any species hay in the morning and then turn out a horse on bermuda pastures in the evenings, does it affect the horse diet? will the horse be able to digest well.

Answer
Hello Rohit,

Thank you for your question.  I am not aware of any toxicity issues with feeding Bermuda grass or Bermuda hay to horses.  As long as the forage is healthy in the field (free of any climate-derived fungus or mold) then it is suitable to be fed to your horses.

Horses digest forages courtesy of the bacteria that exist in the cecum;  the bacteria ferment forages and in doing so create by-products that the horse can absorb and utilize.  The type of bacteria that exist in the cecum depend on the forage type that is being fed, and each type of forage requires different varieties of bacteria.  It is necessary to allow the bacteria time to adjust to new forage types, but if you feed the same types of forages every day (even if there are many different grass types) the horse's bacteria will adjust.  Your regime of feeding kancha hay in the morning and Bermuda grass in the afternoon will not create digestive upset.

Thanks, Corlena
