Question
Hi, I have just bought a 20 year old mare. And I would like to give her a combination vaccine. I have choosen fluvac innovator 5, but what stumps me is that, on the site I am going to buy it off of it says:
Second injection 2-4 weeks after first injection
annual booster
I don't know what it means. does it mean this shot is and annual booster or they need one before you can give them this shot. and does it require 2 injections. but i know that I am buying a single dose. Im confused. I have asked others at my barn but they all get them from the vet so the vet handles it. But i think it would be easier to buy, give it and record it myself. Thank you!

Answer
Hi,

It means that if she hasn't had this vaccine before she needs two injections - 1 now and 1 in 2 - 4 weeks after the initial injection.  She will then need 1 injection a year as a booster.    If she has had the vaccine before then she just needs the 1 booster shot.

If you haven't given injections before, I recommend that you have your vet do it for you.  Sometimes the extra cost is worth it, especially when it comes to the health of the horse.

Good luck!
