hi my 15month old young horse hight 58inch which feed or dite to more hight gain 63inch

Answer
Hello jatinder singh,

Thank you for your question.  Horse's are genetically patterned to grow at a pre-established rate and a horse the age of yours should have reached about 70% of it's adult size.  You would then expect your horse to reach 95% of his adult size by 36 months and put on the rest of his size by about 5 years of age.  So the extra 5 inches of growth that you are hoping for is not unrealistic to achieve...although your goal should be for your horse to reach that size gradually.

The best way to support your horse's optimal growth is to maintain an appropriate plain of nutrition until he is about 5 years old.  A balanced ration is essential for both optimal growth and development...some of which you can physically see and some of which is not that evident.  I never suggest nutritionally pushing for growth and frame, but prefer to promote nutritionally supporting the horse for his optimal growth rate.  Balancing a ration properly is much more complex than just throwing out a number of how much grain to feed, it needs to take into account the horse's weight, amount of exercise/work and the type of forage the animal is eating.  I would urge you to work with a nutritionist to help formulate a ration.  They will calculate how much energy your horse needs to fuel growth, how much protein is needed to build frame and muscle and how much of which minerals are essential for proper bone and joint development.

If you are unable to find a nutritionist to work with, provide me with the following information and I can help you develop a ration:  your horse's precise weight, the type of forage he is eating (an actual forage analysis would be best), and how much of what type of work (if any) that he is doing.  Given that information, I can make some precise suggestions.

Thanks, Corlena
