Question
hello ma'am, what happens to the horse if i over feed wheat bran?

Answer
Hi Rohit,

There is a belief that wheat bran has a laxative effect on horses, although this is really not the case.  The real benefit that comes from feeding bran mash is the amount of water it provides to the digestive tract.  I don't believe that you would create a digestive or metabolic disorder from feeding large amounts of wheat bran.  By the same token, your horse won't derive much nutritional benefit from the practice aside from the water intake so I would suggest for that reason you feed it in moderation and provide more nutrient-rich ingredients.

Thanks, Corlena
