Trembling, cold sweats...

Question
Hi. :)
I wasn't really sure were I should ask this question, I didn't see a section it would fit well in, but I noticed you had a degree in Animal Science, so I thought I'd give it a shot. :)

Well, I have a 6yr old, well fit, all around riding horse. He is in very good shape, and is pretty well bombproof. But a couple times in the past year he has unexpectedly broke into a heavy sweat, and started trembling all over. Every time he has done it, he is only being lightly worked and is not over stressed. He will start showing signs of discomfort, then start sweating(but will be quite chilly), then will begin to tremble around his chest and hindquarters. He will also have short strides and quicker breaths. He has done it 3 times, once around this time last year, once this past May, and he did it earlier tonight. I had given him electrolytes before riding tonight, then again once he started sweating heavy. It takes him about 30-45minutes to dry out and get back to normal, but once he does he seems just fine. I would really like to know what is going on, what to do when it happens, and most importantly, how to prevent it.
THANK YOU. :) -Caitlyn

Answer
Sorry for the delay. I forgot to put that I was out f town on the 29th. I have no sure answer for you. I was once told my a neurologist that headaches were a miswiring of a persons brain. Some kind of defect that wasn't supposed to happen. My guess is this is what happens in your horse. He has some kind of neurological problem that only represents itself with a trigger of some sort. But, this is just a guess. If I am correct then you can't prevent it. You can just make him as comfortable as possible when it happens. I wish I knew the reason for sure and didn't have to guess. I know that you love your horse and want to help him. I am interested in this case and would like to know if you ever do figure out for sure whats happening to him.
