drinking plenty of water - laminitis

Question
hello ma'am, how come horses drinking plenty of water would be a victim of laminitis? if yes, may i know how?

Answer
Hi Rohit,

Horses should have access to as much water as they want throughout the day, otherwise they can become dehydrated.  Drinking very cold water has been know to trigger an onset or recurrence of laminitis in horses that are prone to the disease or have a history of laminitis.  But generally speaking, free access to unlimited water is not the main cause of laminitis.
