Question
HELLO JESSICA, I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD BELGIAN/QUAR MIX. NAYLAH LOVES TO BE OUT IN THE FRONT YARD WITH MY SELF AND (HER) DOGS. BUT, SHE TEND TO SNAP OFF THE BRANCHES FROM THE FRUITLESS MULLBERRY TREE. IS THIS TREE HARMFUL TO HER? WHAT OTHER TREES CAN I PLANT THAT ARE SAFE FOR HER AND THE DOGS, IF THEY GET AHOLD OF IT? THANKS FOR YOU TIME.

Answer
Hi Bernice, To my knowledge mulberry tree is not harmful.  I don't know what area you are in to determine what trees are native to you.  Here is the list you will definitely want to stay away from: Tung oil tree, prickley poppy, boxwood, showy crotalaria, jimsonweed, purple rattlebox, Carroling jasmine, bog pod, coffeebean, bitterweed, common lantana, China berry, oleander, poke weed, Eastern bracken, oaks, casterbean, eldeberry, nightshade, Carolina laurel-cherry, Johnson grass, oriental cocklebur, and rain lily.  I'm not sure about the dogs,  you may want to check with your vet or extension office to pin point the specific trees in your area to stay away from.  Hope this helps, Jessica
