bermuda grass good for horses

Question
hello ma'am. how are you? a serious question.

can i feed bermuda or devil grass to racehorses? does this species release toxins when it is cut out? actually this grass is grown at our thoroughbred racetrack. once in two weeks, our grooms take the horse onto the racetrack(since we dont have pastures to turn out horses), they squat holding the lead rope while the horse keeps busy grazing the grass.

would you feel bermuda grass, good for horse diet? do tell me about the cut out grass of same species. i am much more frightened if i releases toxins.

Answer
Hi Rohit,

Thank you for your question.  Bermuda grass makes excellent pasture and hay for horses.  There is no danger of toxins associated with feeding Bermuda grass, and it has a decent nutritive value for horses.  Hand grazing the racehorses on the fresh grass is very good for them, and you could harvest whatever is not eaten and feed it as a dried forage.  No worries.
