Questionhello, can any thoroughbred be transformed from a racer to a show jumper if he is kept under a good trainer? and if the horse has correct confirmation with long back?
AnswerHi Rohit,
Thank you for your question. Many retired racehorses begin new careers as hunters and/or jumpers quite successfully. In these instances, a good trainer is a must as the transition for the horse can often be challenging. Conformation can be an important (but not necessarily a determining) factor in a jumper's success and those with very long backs need a little more attention. A good farrier, proper fitting tack and a skilled rider will help you overcome those concerns. I'm sure that with some attention to detail you will be successful in transforming racehorses into excellent show jumpers.
