Geldings Behavour Around Mares

We purchased a 4 yr old horse from an auction.  He was gelded, but we do not know when/age.  He still acts like a stallion around mares. Should I have his testosterone levels checked?  Is he too old to "regeld" if necessary? & will it do any good at this age?  Please advise.

             I would have your vet check his testosterone levels. he may have a retained testicle. Depending on how far up it the testicle is will depend on the type of surgery needed. Regelding him at the age of four will help. He could have also just been gelded and it takes 60-90 days for the testosterone to leave the system. There are some geldings who will act studdy around a mare no mattter what age they were gelded and how well.
