Question
hello ma'am. i believe that horses turn stubborn and strong jawed as they are growing older day by day, i mean the horses which are 10+ years. thats why they are ridden with leverage bits like pelhams and curbs rather than snaffles. am i right? ma'am, i think, american quarter horses and tamed mustangs are very strong jawed, thats why western riders use curb bits and hackamore bridles which are severe on them. am i right? am i judging correctly. if i am wrong, please correct me!!

Answer
That is not correct.

People  (bad riding)  makes horses mouths hard.

It is true that some breeds are courser and have greater difficulty balancing off their forehand onto their haunches, thereby leaning on their riders hands a bit...but it is the skill level of the rider who can greatly aid in changing this.

In some Equestrian schools...(in Europe, the Spanish Riding School), riders are lunged for months before they are asllowed to hold the reins.

You need to ride with an independent seat.....never except in an emergency depend on the reins for balance.

Leverage bits should only be used by accomplished riders on trained hoeses.

Horses have a resean for their temperament . Be careful of people who put labels on them.

"Stubborn"...? Maybe the rider is using incorrect aids to the horse, maybe the horse is sore and out of condiiton, maybe he just does not understand because the rider is inept. Trainers will give a horse labels..stubburn...stupid...when thery cannot figure out how to help the horse.
