Tying.

Question
For some reason my horse hates to be tied. I have a feeling it might be an issue with feeling trapped, but if you tie him anywhere and he notices he is tied he will usually flip and break everything he is tied to.
My horse will roll if left tacked in his stall untied for even a short period of time and he has started to damage the saddle. The only way he can be tied is if he is on a bungee tie that stretches when he pulls on it. If a chain tie is used he will break it.
Why is that?

Answer
Horses are naturally claustrophobic. It makes sense that nature made them that way, if they get stuck somewhere they are going to look like an easy dinner to a predator! Be careful using burgees', they can break and whip back and cause much more trouble. They have special ties that give the horse some room if they pull I would look for one. You could also jump ahead and just teach him to ground tie!
Good luck, I hope you can help him feel more comfortable.
